Second Quarter Journal Assignments
- Journal One: Write a narrative piece portraying a specific event that occurred over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Use characterization, dialogue, detail, and other techniques of effective writing to make the incident as vivid as possible to your audience.
- Journal Two: Choose an anecdote from This Boy's Life that reminds you somehow of something you experienced. Briefly summarize the section from the book and then tell your own story. Feel free to use Tobias Wolff as a model for how to write from personal experience. The incident in your own life does not have to be identical to the book; the connection may be loose and associative.
- Journal Three: Write a 400-word draft of an incident that you may expand later as your Reflective Essay. See the assignment sheet for details of the assignment.
- Journal Four: Write a narrative piece portraying a specific event that occurred over the Winter Break. Use characterization, dialogue, detail, and other techniques of effective writing to make the incident as vivid as possible to your audience.
- Journal Five: Which character do you respect the most from the play? Why do you respect him or her? Discuss a specific passage from the play that supports your opinion, and include a quote.
